We are a privately owned, client friendly mixed practice in Nottinghamshire with 4 fully functioning surgeries and two branch practices.
We require an additional mixed vet due to fledglings heading off travelling (new grads who are suddenly 2-4 years qualified!). The position can have a bias to a single discipline but the paired, mixed on call is currently non-negotiable with a mixed position, but the intention is to overhaul the on call system this spring. We are recruiting night vets to seperate a large animal on call system and an on site small animal team from our Newark site. This position requires a vet with some level of experience who can hit the ground running, the on call will be paired until the split so the candidate doesn’t need to be fully proficient in all areas.
As you should expect from any good employer we are looking for someone to fit in to a friendly and helpful team dynamic, who can be an asset to the practice while progressing both personally and professionally.
We encourage clinical freedom and allow staff to find a role or niche they enjoy within the practice and all of our positions have the flexibility to adapt to areas of clinical interest and we expect roles to evolve over time.
We have a very good range of diagnostic equipment.
For the small animal side we have; digital x-ray with dental xray, digital endoscope/rhinoscope , ultrasound, ECG, suction, pulse ox and recently upgraded Idexx lab equipment at every branch alongside an in house microbiology lab.
For the large animal side we have ultrasound for both farm and equine, mobile digital x-ray, hand and power tools for dentals as well as a very nice equine endoscope, gastroscope and dental scope. We have in house biochemistry and haematology for horses, microbiology with some PM facility and daily collections for all other large animal lab samples.
As a practice we like to be progressive in our approach to diagnostics so will invest in equipment that will be utilised and beneficial to the practice. We encourage relevant CPD with a focus on areas of personal improvement and interest. We have a standard 5 days of CPD allowance and study for certificates is welcomed and funded as part of your CPD allowance.
We currently cover all of our own out of hours work, the on call is currently paired to cover both small and large animal calls. The pairings are set to balance experience and interest so could easily include a vet with a weighted interest. The current rota is 1 in 6 with an additional 1 in 12 Saturday mornings. Additional consulting hours are run from our Newark branch over the weekend to help reduce the out of hours workload, this is run on a separate rota of small animal vets. On call vets currently have the Monday to Wednesday off following a weekend on call and the Friday after a Saturday morning shift to try to keep a work-life balance. The is a rotating half day following a night on call where one of the pair is rota’d off. These days off are on top of the 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays (any worked are given back in leiu). All upcoming change will be designed to maintain or improve the current working balance.
We have returned to arranging optional CPD evenings at local pubs with great food to keep you up to date with new products, the days of trying to squeeze in lunch and learns are gone!
We have a generous package based on experience and can include; house, car, phones, broadband, society membership and VDS cover.
